projects > single ply > Sedgefield Leisure Centre Spennymoor and Newton Aycliffe leisure centres are at the heart of Sedgefield's community. Hundreds of visitors come through the doors each month and with each centre housing sports clubs, leagues and a range of different facilities including swimming pools, saunas, a climbing wall, and fitness suites closing the doors for essential repairs to the roof was not an option. When the roofs over swimming pools and main halls in both leisure centres began leaking it caused great disruption because every time it rained they had to be closed down. In addition, condensation problems were also affecting areas of both centres. Both Roofs were covered with composite metal sheets. The standing seam top sheet had started to fail and the rivets were springing loose. Marley Waterproofing designed a system that consisted of infilling between the standing seam profiles with PIR Insulation. This was mechanically fixed through the standing seam, through the sandwiched Rockwool insulation and into the bottom metal sheet secured to main Purlin's. A vapour control
layer was then introduced and laid across the whole of the roof. A
further insulation board was adhered to the VCL the thickness being
calculated so that no condensation could form in the system. A polimar prep layer was then bonded to the insulation board with Supastik bonding agent to make watertight as soon as possible. The finishing layer was then applied with Mach One Single Layer membrane being PU adhered to the preparation layer. The method fitted
Sedgefield Council's requirements perfectly as not only did it allow
the centre to remain operational whilst the work took place, it was
a flame free system. This was an important criteria for the general
public's health & safety as work was carried out whilst the Leisure
Centre stayed open. |
