Particularly demanding loading conditions combined with a high water table and the need for ease of installation led the project team on a landmark social housing scheme, located close to the Thames, to specify Gasgard damp proof course.

Built by Mansell, the Coin Street development presents a high quality residential facet to the capital's Millennium Mile. The three to five storey blocks of flats, maisonettes and houses feature a reinforced concrete framed structure, in filled with cavity masonry, all supported on a basement car parking structure cast in waterproof concrete.

Both Haworth Tompkins Architects and Mansell's site management selected Gasgard, as they required a totally dependable DPC material to lie on the waterproof concrete slab forming the roof of the car park.

A Marley Waterproofing technical representative visited the site during the early stages to supervise on the correct method of heat bonding at horizontal and vertical junctions. Gasgard was torched across the perimeter of the reinforced concrete frame and down the upstands then either returned into the blockwork, two to three courses up, or bonded to the face of the concrete.

A spokesperson for Mansells said: "We value Marley Waterproofing's level of expertise, as well as the quality of the products and have involved them on a number of prestigious projects over recent years. Coin Street has been a very demanding contract in respect of the waterproofing details and we have been very pleased with the technical support provided.
